God calls us to serve those in need—and while for some that means traveling across the globe, for most of us it simply means serving God and others in our homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, and cities.
But it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the needs of others. What steps do we even take to help those who are suffering, sick, or in poverty? Well, Jesus made it simple for us—begin with just one person’s needs. See them. Listen to them. And respond with compassion. While it may take courage to step outside of our comfort zones, when we do, we are bringing Heaven to Earth.
Every day this week, pray that God fosters in your heart a deeper love for those in need. Then, take some action. Commit to serving with an organization that meets the needs of people in your own community. Use this verse from Matthew 25:40 as a wallpaper on your phone or computer to remind yourself to pray for and reach out to those in need.
"Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." (Matthew 25:40)
